The Amityville Legacy

The Amityville Legacy, also released under the title Amityville Toybox, is a 2016 American horror film. Dustin Ferguson and Mike Johnson co-wrote and co-directed the project, which went straight to video. It marks the fifteenth movie inspired by Jay Anson's 1977 book *The Amityville Horror*. The lead role of Mark Janson is played by Mark Popejoy. His character is a father who, after being given a possessed cymbal-banging monkey toy that originated from the haunted house at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York, turns to killing his own relatives.

The story begins in 1974 with Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdering his family at that same address. Forty years later, the Janson family gathers in rural Nebraska to celebrate the fiftieth birthday of Mark, a widowed and recovering alcoholic. He lives with his mother, Jeanne, who has dementia, and his pregnant daughter, Britany. The reunion includes his other daughters Julia, Jennii, and Breana; Breana's boyfriend, Daniel; Mark's son, Anthony; Anthony's boyfriend, Jade; Mark's sister-in-law, Cheyenne; and Cheyenne's daughter, Schuylar. Among Mark's birthday presents is the monkey toy, which was once taken from 112 Ocean Avenue. A demon inhabits the toy, appearing to Mark as his abusive, deceased father, Mr. Janson. The demon torments Mark—a devout Catholic—with visions, such as Breana and Daniel having premarital sex and Anthony and Jade engaging in S&M, each hallucination ending with the phrase "Stop me, daddy." The demon insists Mark must remove any threats to his family's unity, leading him to reluctantly kill Cheyenne, Daniel, and Jade.

After these murders, the demon tells Mark that eliminating the "outsiders" is insufficient. It claims his family members are all sinful and that Mark must "save" them by killing them to send their souls to Heaven. Mark then has a sexually explicit vision of himself and Julia. He arms himself with a shotgun and murders Jeanne, Schuylar, and all his children except Julia. During a struggle, Julia wounds Mark and escapes while he deals with two passing motorists. After killing those motorists, Mark gathers the bodies of his loved ones, stacks them in a room, and commits suicide. A week later, a psychic paranormal investigator visits the Janson house.
